The Tool Library ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and who we share it with when you use The Tool Library iOS app or website.

We do not sell your personal information. We never have, and we never will.

Account Information

Name and email address when you register
Profile photo (optional)
Zip code for neighborhood matching

Tool & Activity Data

Tool listings you create (name, category, photos, GPS location)
Borrow requests, loan history, and ratings
Community posts and messages
Handoff photos taken at checkout and return

Location Data

GPS coordinates when you add a tool (to place it on the map)
General zip code for neighborhood filtering
We do not track your location continuously or in the background

Device Data

Push notification token (to send borrow request and message alerts)

Section 2

Identity Verification (Optional)

If you choose to earn the Verified Neighbor Badge, we use Stripe Identity, a third-party identity verification service, to confirm your identity.

Stripe Identity collects a photo of your government-issued ID and a selfie or short video for biometric comparison
This data is processed and stored by Stripe, not by The Tool Library
Stripe's Privacy Policy governs the handling of this sensitive data: stripe.com/privacy
Identity verification is entirely optional and is not required to use the app

How We Use Your Information

To connect you with neighbors in your zip code
To facilitate tool borrowing and lending
To send push notifications about your requests and messages
To verify your identity (Stripe Identity, optional, for the Neighbor Badge)
To moderate content and enforce our Terms of Use

Section 4

Information Sharing

We share data only with the following service providers who help us operate the app. We do not sell your data to advertisers or data brokers.

Supabase — database and authentication provider (supabase.com/privacy)
Stripe — identity verification, optional (stripe.com/privacy)
Expo — push notification delivery (expo.dev/privacy)
Apple — app distribution and payments (apple.com/privacy)

Section 5

User-Generated Content

Content you post (tool listings, community posts, photos) is visible to other users in your zip code. Profile information is visible to neighbors. Messages are visible only to the two parties in a conversation.

Section 6

Data Retention & Account Deletion

We retain your data while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time directly within the app:

In the app: Profile → Settings → Delete Account. Deletion is immediate and permanent.

Tool listings and transaction history may be retained for a brief period for legal compliance, then permanently purged. You may also contact us at support@toollibrary.co for data requests or questions.

Section 7

Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and secure database practices via Supabase. We regularly review our data handling practices to protect your information.

Section 8

Children's Privacy

The Tool Library is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If we discover that a user is under 18, we will delete their account.

Your Rights

Access your data through your profile in the app
Correct your information in Settings → Edit Profile
Delete your account in Settings → Delete Account (immediate)
Contact us for any data requests or questions

Section 10

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy at any time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
